If you have been to New York, then you know that the pace out here is radically different than in California. I chose Pace because of the prime location in downtown Manhattan, the outstanding career services department, the opportunities in New York to gain work experience, and for the reputation that Pace has among business professionals. Also, New York is oozing with celebrities that you may just run into on the busy streets of Manhattan. These are the certain aspects of the school that I could not find similar comparisons to in California.
All of the classes I take here at Pace are interactive, interesting and well prepared. MY favorite class this semester is surprisingly my English Creative Writing class. Professor Breidenbach centers his lectures on the topic of degenerating from traditional values. Topics -such as mimetic desire, cannibalism, corruption, a powerful state, Greek myths and much more- are applicable to daily life. Funny enough, I find myself quoting his lectures while talking to friends all of the time.
Since arriving to Pace NYC, I got very involved in the community by joining school clubs such as Student Government, Residence Hall Association (part of a internationally recognized organization of NACURH), and A Dollar's Difference (a charitable group ran by students). This helped me connect to the various administrative staff (most of which are very friendly and personable!!!) and other students who are just as driven as I am. It is so easy to get involved and find your niche at Pace, also the leadership opportunities are so abundant and if you work hard you might just get elected to an Executive Board or a Senate position by your sophomore year!!!
I have been a strong advocate of the career services office, which I have been going to numerous times since the beginning of my freshman year. Since going to the career services office I have: been connected with a personal counselor, whom I am very close to now; revised and updated my resume; practiced my interviewing techniques; and got my login information for the eRecruiting program. I have successfully interviewed for: the Orientation Leader Program, a Resident Advisor Position, a Marketing internship at Upright Citizens Brigade (an improvisation theater) and an internship at SiriusXM Radio. I was lucky enough to be offered two internships this semester from both of the places I interviewed at, and the tough part was making a choice between the two. I am proud to say that I chose SiriusXM Radio, where I've had so many great hands-on experiences as the Executive Top Programming Intern. This summer I will be working as an Orientation Leader, welcoming new students to Pace and New York City! Next semester, I will be working as a Resident Advisor on campus and doing part time volunteer work for an election campaign in NYC.
Overall, I do not regret choosing to earn my education at Pace because the experience here is so unique and so different than traditional universities. I've had such an incredible experience doing things like: attending SNL and live tapings of popular shows; meeting 50 cent, Robin Thicke, and Michael Buble at J&R (just 2 blocks away); attending a taping of Inside the Actor's Studio with the cast of Mad Men, and meeting Jon Hamm & John Slattery afterwards; going to museums such as the Met, the National History Museum, and the MOMA; working as an intern at SiriusXM Radio; and so much more. This is the city of dreams and an endless pool of opportunity.
