Fortunately, for marketing major Nicolette Neurauter ’14, going Greek has involved more than what’s typically depicted in the movies. In fact, Neurauter has been to the movies and back through one of many internship opportunities made available to her by the Kappa Delta sorority.

As a sophomore, Neurauter tapped into her sisterhood and landed her first internship at MRY, an international agency, as a BlackBerry Campus Ambassador. Neurauter promoted the BlackBerry brand at Pace. “I really loved this internship because it gave me an opportunity to plan events as well as meet an array of Pace students,” she says.

It wasn’t long before Neurauter found herself at DreamWorks, where she was first exposed to marketing. Moving from event planning to the marketing sector, Neurauter worked on DreamWorks Classics brands such as Lassie and Casper the Friendly Ghost, and ran the Facebook pages for two of the company’s brands. “[DreamWorks] helped me learn about marketing licensing and solidified that I wanted to go into the marketing field,” she says.

In fact, Neurauter enjoyed marketing so much that she joined Pace’s 2013 Ad Team, a two part, invitation-only course for fully-dedicated students that go on to compete in the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). The team is challenged to spend two semesters creating a complete marketing campaign for a sponsoring company, with a chance to see their concepts into fruition, if selected at NSAC. Past sponsors include companies such as Yahoo!, Coca-Cola, AOL Instant Messenger, Nissan, and more.

“I feel that I have an edge over other students throughout the country,” says Neurauter. “The extensive marketing classes I have taken have truly helped me talk intelligently about my field when interviewing and discussing aspects of the business. [Professor] Chiagouris [adviser of Ad Team] has helped me expand my passion for marketing.”

And those skills are coming in handy as Neurauter embarks on her current internship at Marvel Comics. As a business development intern, Neurauter assists with convention preparation, ads for future comic books, and—of course—reading comic books. “I never thought that I would be able to work for a company I’ve admired my whole life. Now, I get to read comic books as part of my job. It’s been a dream come true,” she says.

Neurauter attributes her success to her sorority, Kappa Delta, which helped her land her internships at MRY, DreamWorks, and Marvel Comics. “One of the greatest choices I’ve ever made in college is joining Kappa Delta. Not only did I receive every internship I’ve had from a KD graduate, I’ve also made friends that I know I will have forever,” she says.

In true sisterhood spirit, Neurauter is giving back to her sorority by serving as president of Kappa Delta’s Eta Iota chapter at Pace. As president, she encourages her fellow sisters to go after those dream internships and—of course—read more comic books.
