Credential Files
WHAT IS A CREDENTIAL FILE?
A Credential File is a temporary record established by you to support your application for employment. It includes letters of recommendation from faculty, employers and other professionals who can attest to your qualifications. Your letters are on official Pace University forms and, once completed, are forwarded by us to potential employers upon your written request.
HOW DO I ESTABLISH A FILE?
Complete the Credential File Registration form. You will receive 3-5 Letters of Recommendation forms to provide your references. Instruct them to forward the completed forms to our office.
IS MY FILE OPEN OR CONFIDENTIAL?
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 gives you the right to establish an open file, allowing you to review and retain copies of all the letters of recommendation. Or, you can waive your right to review the contents of your file and establish a confidential credential file. All files are discarded after five years. A file is either open or confidential, never a combination of the two. Indicate on your Registration and Letter of Recommendation forms which option you have selected.
HOW DO I REQUEST SENDING MY REFERENCES TO EMPLOYERS?
You must submit all requests in writing with complete information including the employer name, title, and complete address. Also include your signature and U#. Fax your request.
HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY FILE?
Your file is the property of Career Services at Pace University located on the Pleasantville campus ONLY. It will remain active for five years from the date of your graduation. If you wish to update your letters annually, feel free to do so. After five years, your file will be discarded.
