Intern Spotlight Archive: Melissa
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I live about a half hour from Pace. I transferred to Pace in January 2010 as a Communications major. I absolutely love everything about communications. From the moment I came to Pace I started writing for The Paw Print and in the Fall 2010 Semester I was an intern. That same semester I joined the Pace Glee Club as the Event Coordinator. Now, going into the Spring 2011 Semester I am the Treasurer and Event Coordinator of the Glee Club.
What co-op/internships are you currently participating in or have completed?
About a month and a half ago I received a phone call from The Rachael Ray Show. I am a big Taylor Swift fan and have been since I was 15. A couple of years ago I had written a letter to the show saying that I was a big fan and I would love to meet her. Little did I know that the show saves all letters in archives. The Rachael Ray Show called me an asked if I would be willing to do a Taylor Swift makeover. I had never done anything crazy so I went for it. I was completely styled head to toe with professional stylists Paul Venoit and Jeffrey Altenburg. The day after the makeover I was on the show and answering questions from Rachael Ray. To my complete surprise, Taylor Swift walked out behind me. I was completely shocked and speechless. It was an amazing experience and I even got to meet my favorite musician! Taylor was so sweet. She hung out with me after, taking a few pictures and gave me tickets to her show in July. I absolutely cannot wait to see her perform.
While I was there, I brought my resume. I worked with one of the producers the entire time I was being made over so she brought me right to the internship coordinator. I received a call shortly later and set up an interview. Currently I am interning in the field and production departments. This has been such a life changing experience for me!
How did you get involved with Career Services and what resources would you recommend to other students?
I came into Pace with a new major and had no idea what I wanted to do. I figured that Career Services would help me and they really have. My advisor, Carolyn Kleiman, is really great and always looking for things I would be interested in. I tell everyone to visit Career Services and find a counselor. It is so helpful!
What do you like most about being a Pace University student?
I honestly love Pace because I see so many opportunities. I feel that they help students find internships and jobs better than any other school. The classes they offer are so much fun and so informative. There are also so many things to do outside of academics. I'm happy I chose Pace to help prepare me for my future.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to intern at more places and hopefully get a job at one of the places I intern at. I can't wait to see where I am in a couple years!
