Learning Communities

A Learning Community links courses and disciplines so that students and their professors experience a coherent and enriched learning environment together. Pace University offers two kinds of Learning Communities: 1) Two paired integrated and coordinated courses, each taught by a different professor in a different discipline. Students must register for both sections of the Learning Community OR 2) an interdisciplinary (INT) course taught by a team of two professors from different disciplines and focused on a particular theme.

In either case, Learning Communities provide an ideal setting for college students to develop a sense of responsibility and community; an increased interaction among students and faculty; a rich, learning-centered environment; active and collaborative learning; exploration and understanding of diverse perspectives and a deeper understanding of course materials.

To search the on line class schedule for current Learning Communities, follow the instructions below:

  1. To find all Learning Communities offered in a given semester, you must include all subjects offered in the Subject Menu in your search.  To do this, hold down the CTRL and ALT keys together and drag the cursor down the entire list.  This will highlight every subject rather than just one.

  2. Next, narrow your search to include only those courses that are Learning Community courses.  To do this, type “Learning Communities” in the Attribute field.  This will allow you to search all courses in all subject areas that have that attribute.
