Career Corner Fall 2012
Career Corner: Introducing the Relationship Manager for the College of Health Professions
Kimberly Porter is the Relationship Manager for the College of Health Professions. In this newly developed role, she ensures that there is an open line of communication between Career Services and CHP. This allows the Career Services team to form a better relationship with students and meet their career development needs while at Pace and beyond.
Career Corner will regularly feature career advice from her as well as Jane Dolan and Judi DeBlasio.
Q: What services are available to College of Health Professions students?
A: Career Services offers individualized, comprehensive career counseling to Pace students and alumni. We host career workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and conducting a targeted job search and more. We also offer a credential file service where we house student recommendations and disseminate them to prospective employers when requested by the student.
We are developing a new specialized job search handbook with specific resources for nurses and PA students including samples of resumes and cover letters, interview questions, professional organizations and more.
We have career boot camps in both New York City and Pleasantville four times per year. Alumni and soon-to-be graduates can obtain information on market trends, job search strategies, resume writing, and effective networking, at this “one stop shop.”
Q: Is there a career fair coming up for current students and alumni?
A: Yes, we will have a career fair on Wednesday, October 10 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Goldstein fitness center (PLV). We are holding prep events leading up to the career fair.
- October 2, we will offer a “Resumes that Get Noticed” workshop from 3:30-4:25 at Gannett House
- October 3, we will offer Tips For Success from 11am-12pm at Gannett House
Q: If I’m a student and I want more information or would like to access some services, what’s the best way to reach you?
A: We always like to hear from students, and the earlier in your academic career, the better. We have a great deal of information on our website www.pace.edu/careers. The best way to get information is to meet with one of our Career Counselors. Appointments are student driven - we work on what the student needs to work on. Students can call (914) 773-3415 to schedule an appointment. We also have drop-in hours at Kessel Student Center: Room 211: Monday through Thursday 12:30pm-2pm. We have hours by appointment too: Monday from 2pm-5pm; Tuesday through Thursday from 9am – 5pm. Gannett House offers appointments from 9-5 Monday through Friday.
