Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching

Dean Feldman said, “Quoting one of her colleagues and former students: ‘Invariably across all of these settings [Jean] Covino has demonstrated creative energy and a consistent ability to engage students while presenting the subject material in a clear and logical fashion.’ Quoting another colleague: ‘Jean has exceptional skills in curricular design, accomplishing the often-difficult task of providing rigorous, evidence-based content with online evaluation/testing. Her course evaluations are far above average, even for difficult courses such as Research Methods and Epidemiology and Evidence Based Medicine which students often rate lower due to their difficulty level. Jean has successfully mentored multiple students from their initial research question to national publication in several of our peer-reviewed journals.”

Upon accepting the award, Jean Covino thanked the people who took the time to nominate her, and thanked the students who “give me a reason to get up in the morning.” She said she hoped she had made the students the best they can be. “It is an honor to be faculty to all of you,” she said.
