Annual Winter Cultural Exchange Festival
Every December, the Confucius Institute co-sponsors the New York Chinese Opera Society’s (NYCOS) Annual Winter Cultural Exchange Festival at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University. The festival showcases traditional and contemporary Peking-style operas. The festival also features a ceremony to honor the winners of the Annual NYCOS Essay Contest, co-sponsored by NYCOS, the Confucius Institute and the Center for East Asian Studies at Pace. The contest is on the subject of Chinese culture and history and is open to all Pace University students.
For more information about NYCOS visit the Opera Society’s website at www.nycosi.org.
In order to better serve our communities and update our supporters on our programming, we hold open houses twice a year in October and May.
Celebrating festivals and holidays can facilitate awareness and respect for cultural diversity. They provide wonderful opportunities for people to construct a positive sense of self and a respectful understanding of others. To increase cultural understanding, Pace CI holds celebrations for major traditional Chinese festivals and holidays such as the Chinese Lunar New Year, Confucius's Birthday, Teachers' Day, and the Mid-Autumn/Moon Festival. By experiencing these festivals, we hope people will gain profound knowledge about Chinese culture. We also integrate our cultural activities into American events and holidays to become part of the greater community.
