Course Description

The Battery Based Renewable Energy Systems course introduces the science and engineering of photovoltaic, wind, and solar thermal systems, providing students with hands-on training, and exposing them to current information about the various components utilized. The class provides participants with an entry-level working knowledge of off-grid photovoltaic, small-scale wind, and solar thermal technologies, as well as battery back-up and bi-modal systems. Participants will gain a more in-depth understanding of off-grid power system components such as inverters, charge controllers / regulators and load controllers, generator, auto-transfer switches, UPS’s in addition to storage technologies, structural design aspects, safety, installation, and system maintenance, with special attention to battery maintenance.

Prerequisite: Solar PV Design and Installation Basics or equivalent knowledge.
