Turnitin in Blackboard for Faculty
Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention service available to Pace University students and faculty through Blackboard. Turnitin encourages best practices for using and citing other people’s written material. It can be used as a deterrent, but we encourage faculty to use it as an educational tool to teach students how to work with sources and to improve paraphrasing and quoting skills. Pace University has integrated Turnitin into our Blackboard LMS.** By using Turnitin in Blackboard, all Turnitin actions are incorporated seamlessly into Blackboard. This allows for both faculty and students to access submissions.
Instructors using Turnitin need to be sure to communicate with students about their use of Turnitin and how their academic integrity policies work. Turnitin’s proprietary software then compares the paper’s text to a database of 12+ billion pages of digital content (including archived internet content that is no longer available on the live web) as well as over 110 million papers in the student paper archive, and 80,000+ professional, academic and commercial journals and publications.
