About the Program
Pace University’s Common Reading Program supports the University’s mission of intellectual growth, critical thinking, thoughtful expression, inclusivity, diversity, self reflection and service. Specifically, the common reading supports the following goals in Pace’s Strategic Plan:
- Strengthen the student academic experience
- Encourage widespread student involvement in diverse co-curricular activities and increased intellectual and social interaction among students and faculty
- Create opportunities for informal student-faculty engagement
- Build a culture of community
All incoming freshmen will receive the book at Orientation and will be expected to read it in its entirety prior to the beginning of the semester. Faculty and staff who work with freshmen are encouraged to read the book and integrate the relevant themes into their classes, programs and conversations. There will be events surrounding the book and its topics during the Fall semester, including service events, a film series, discussion groups and programs.
