Make Face Time

I’m originally from a small city in Connecticut so as you can imagine, New York City seemed like a huge playground to me when I first got here in the Fall of 2007. However, as with any place one becomes used to, sometimes life starts to feel like that Kleenex commercial—“Touch. Touch. Touch.” Go. Go. Go. Get In Bed. Feel…your pillow. Then, wake up tommorow morning and do it all over again!
Yesterday morning, I was commencing with my usual “Go, Go, Go,” routine when I noticed an advertisement for Dentyne Ice on the subway. It read, “Power down. Log off. Unplug. Have mercy on your thumbs. Browse the world wide something else. Send some not-so-instant messages. Undo. Hit Cancel. Be together. Make face time.”
I thought about this for a second and decided to write this blog about it. Both of Pace’s campuses are located on two opposite ends of the spectrum; One campus is in a more urban enviornment while the other is in a more suburban enivornment. With that type of diversity, how dare we ever feel bored?
Although I attend the NYC campus, I used to cheer on the Pleasantville campus so I can tell you first hand that Pleasantville is the beautiful, “outdoorsy”, residential-area campus. I also read on the “Top 5 Things To Do Around Pace” that Westchester has some awesome trails for hiking and mountain biking. If you go into town some more, there are also some great places to get your grub on!
In NYC, everything is a walk away or a subway ride away. Most people don’t know this but you can go to the Museum of Natural History and the Met for just a penny. The prices are marked as “Suggested Prices,” not mandatory ones! I would recommend to chip in a quarter, $1 or maybe even $5 and explore away! They are awesome places to kill time if you’re ever bored, just to name a few.
I’m sure this blog doesn’t do much justice in naming all of the things you could do at Pace but I’m hoping to encourage you all to start embracing the beauty and diversity of your individual enviornments. Bored? Get off of facebook kids! Take a walk to the South Street Seaport and marvel at the Brooklyn Bridge. Go to the banks of the Hudson River and let a crisp breeze caress your face. Step outside, wherever you may be, and absorb your surroundings. Make Face Time.
