Like many college students, I’m ready for this semester to be over with. Please get me on the next train to Albany so I can escape final exams, papers, and multiple presentations.

...Maybe I’m being a teensy overdramatic. Finals can be a stressful time for everyone, even students like me who are amazing at time management (FYI post-it notes do wonders for prioritizing and organization). If you’re organized and set aside time for yourself, you will be a little saner during this intense time of year.

I schedule time for studying and writing, filling out applications for internships, extracurricular obligations, but always make it a priority to include some “me time” sometime during the day. I refuse to be overly stressed to the point of non-functioning like a lot of students are during exam periods.

I realize this seems nearly impossible to do. I just completed a 17-page paper for one class with a full annotated bibliography, works cited page, and my parts of a group assignment; a four page extra credit essay with citations; a six page paper with a supplementary annotated bibliography and PowerPoint presentation; and a final speech for my Public Speaking course. I’m officially done with English and public speaking for the semester.  I still have to take finals in two other classes, write another essay, and create my final project for my design course.

Nobody said college was easy.

Call me crazy, but I’m not stressed out. I really believe it’s because I make sure I keep my sanity. I’ve been very productive and schedule time to recollect and refocus my energy on accomplishing my monstrous workload. Just setting aside five measly minutes out of my day to grab a cup of signature hot chocolate from Starbucks or using time to decorate my door with my roommate does wonders.

I may be a little tired from staying up past my bedtime trying to perfect everything before I turn it in, but I guess being a little exhausted is better than having a nervous breakdown.

I suggest all students, wherever you attend college, create a system that works best for you to relieve stress during finals week. Set aside some time for yourself, breathe, and do anything except procrastinate.

Good luck! :-)
