Obligations and Excitements for Fall 2009

The anticipation of moving back to Pace is going to drive me crazy this week! Soon enough, I’ll arrive in my John St. dorm, furnished with an almost full-size refrigerator, flat-screen plasma television with built in DVD player, and best of all, a private bathroom!

NO MORE COMMUNAL BATHROOMS! :D

Of course, I’ll miss the community aspect of living in Maria’s Tower (the freshmen dormitory) and the convenience of being able to roll out of bed 5 minutes before class starts and desperately convene my way into an elevator to ensure that I would make it to my class on time.

My new dorm is just a few blocks away from Pace and a little traveling does the body good- which I’ll be doing a lot of this semester. In addition to my foundation courses that I’m registered for, I’ve decided to take an introductory teaching course which will fulfill my writing enhanced credit (all students must complete one before graduation) and a broadcasting course over at Pace’s Pleasantville campus. Both will require a little bit of traveling one has field study experiences and the other is a 45-minute ride away (for those who don’t know, Pace provides a free-shuttle service between the Pleasantville and New York campus), but I know both will definitely be worth the extra time since they are two major interests of mine.

Now to focus on my on-campus obligations this semester!

I’ll hopefully be returning to my part-time job on-campus and additionally have the honor of being a University 101 Peer Leader once a week for an incoming group of freshmen. The course is mandated to take by all freshmen and I act as a teacher’s assistant to the instructor providing experienced college insight to living and studying at Pace. My UNV 101 class was a more than positive experience for me and I’d like to give back to my own community in this way.poptvpace

The major way I’m trying to give back to Pace this year is through the creation of POP TV Pace’s Official Programming. We’re a new club that my friends and I established and have progressed so far in such a short time! (You can read more about us in one of the recent issues of the Pace Pulse and in my upcoming blogs). I know POP TV will be consuming a lot of my time, but I’m looking forward to all that we can accomplish, like establishing an even stronger sense of community throughout the school.

I know I sound like a broken record or your mother nagging at you when I say this, but the best way to enjoy your experience at Pace University is to engage yourself in what you love to do and share it with the community at large. Through interesting courses, fun jobs, and extracurricular clubs, anyone can further develop their passions while living on campus or by attending college at Pace.
