Calling all Yankee Fans!
Calling all Yankee Fans!! Among the abundance of things that are great about Pace, one of my favorite aspects of the University is its location. Pace is a convenient 45 minute train ride away from Yankee Stadium if you reside on the Westchester Campus, or about 25 minutes if you reside on the New York City Campus. For the Westchester Campus, you can either drive or take the Pace Shuttle to the Pleasantville Train Station which brings you right to the Stadium. Being able to take the train to and from the Stadium is very handy. My suitemate Christina and I were able to go to plenty of Yankee games this semester without it conflicting with our school work because it was so convenient. We were able to go to all of our classes during the day, and then hop on the train and be at the Stadium within the hour. We went to every game the week of September 7th in hopes that we would be able to see Derek Jeter’s history making at bat where he passed Lou Gehrig on the All Time Yankees Hit List. We finally saw Yankee history on Friday September 11th and experienced an amazing energy in the Stadium. After an incredible regular season, the Yankees proceeded into the American League Division Series, in which we were at Game 1. The Yankees then continued onto the American League Championship Series in which we attended Game 1 and Game 6. The Game 6 victory of the ALCS was one of my most memorable games from this season. Being in the Stadium to witness the final out which allowed the Yankees to continue on to the World Series was absolutely unbelievable. I have never heard the Stadium rumble like it did that evening. Days later, Christina and I also attended Game 1 of the World Series. After the Yankees won their 27th World Series Championship on Wednesday, November 8th the traditional Yankees Parade soon followed. Friday's ticker-tape parade began on Broadway at Battery Place and continued northbound up the Canyon of Heroes to Chambers Street. The Parade concluded and the ceremony took place at City Hall, directly across the street from the Pace New York City Campus. During the ceremony, Mayor Bloomberg presented the Yankees with the keys to the city. Pace students were able to watch the end of the Parade, the concluding ceremony, and a memorable performance from Jay-Z from Pace One Plaza. Unlike students who chose to have a warm, crowd free view of the ceremony from the NYC campus, I chose to fight the crowds and stand on Broadway from 6:30am to 1pm. We had the opportunity to be in the front row only a few feet away from the Yankees as they passed by. After the Parade, Yankee fans showed their pride and their love for their team and celebrated in the streets in a blizzard of confetti. Be sure to check out the video Pace made from the Parade and see if you can find me in it!! The link to the video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gcv4swAKeK4. Everyone should post the link to their Facebooks and show their Yankee Pride!! ~ Victoria |
