Many careers in biology require additional certifications and/or advanced degrees.
- M.S. degree in Biology – Individuals with MS degrees in biology typically progress beyond the entry level positions described above.
- MSPAS degree – Individuals with an MSPAS degree are masters level Physician Assistants and work in health care settings.
- RNP degree – Individuals with an RNP degree are nurse practitioners and work in health care settings.
- Secondary Education – Individuals with a BS or BA in Biology may opt to obtain additional certification or Masters level degrees in order to teach secondary education biology.
- PharmD – Individuals with a PharmD degree are pharmacists.
- PhD degree in Biology – Individuals with PhD degrees in biology typically hold academic positions at undergraduate or research institutions. They may also work in research and development in a pharmaceutical company.
- DPT – Individuals with a DPT degree are physical therapists and work in health care settings.
- DOT – Individuals with a DOT degree are occupational therapists and work in health care settings.
- MD or DO degree – Individuals with MD or DO degrees have attended medical school (MD) or a school of osteopathic medicine. These individuals practice medicine.
- DDS or DMD degree – Individuals with DDS or DMD degrees have attended dental school. These individuals practice dentistry.
- DVM or VMD degree – Individuals with DVM or VMD degree have attended veterinary school. These individuals practice veterinary medicine.
