Undergraduate Programs
Biochemistry, BS (NYC, PLV)
Biochemistry is the chemistry of life. The nature of life is built upon the chemical processes that allow energy generation which in turn allow complex molecules to be constructed into a web of life. The Biochemistry program helps you develop the skills to decode the language of life and will lead you through the path of the living cell.
Upon completion of the program you will be prepared for many careers within the fields of biochemical research, the pharmaceutical industry and the manufacturing of chemicals, food, and other consumer products as well as careers in medicine, dentistry, and allied health care.
Our program nurtures your curiosity through independent research projects with your professors. Members of the faculty have active research projects which involve synthesis of bioactive molecules, development of photoactive probes and modeling of bio-molecules. Students will have the opportunity of working in the Haskins Laboratories where faculty are actively involved in biochemical studies of parasitic diseases with a view to developing new antimicrobial agents to combat disease by opportunistic infections of AIDS patients, sexually transmitted diseases and East African sleeping sickness.
The Pace University degree program in biochemistry is accredited by the American Chemical Society. A prestigious “seal of approval” by the world's chemists, this accreditation establishes Pace among the nation's foremost
universities and colleges in this field of study.
Chemistry, BS (NYC, PLV)
The Pace University degree program in chemistry is accredited by the American Chemical Society. A prestigious “seal of approval” by the world’s chemists, this accreditation establishes Pace among the nation’s foremost universities and colleges in this field of study. The study of chemistry is both challenging and rewarding. It is, essentially, a central science offering a wide range of career options. Pace offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a chemistry major and a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biochemistry. By careful selection of elective courses, in consultation with faculty advisors, chemistry majors may choose a specialization in pre-medical, pre-dental or pre-veterinary studies. They may also elect to specialize in such areas as analytical, experimental, theoretical, industrial chemistry or management science.
Forensic Science, BS (NYC)
Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science may opt to enter the fields of forensic science, biology, chemistry, or pharmaceuticals. Students will also have the course requirements needed for admission into medical or dental schools or to continue onto graduate studies in forensic science, biology or chemistry.
The Forensic Science is a fast growing and expanding field. This is induced by the “CSI effect” a term widely used among legal and law enforcement professionals. The popular television shows inspire students to consider a career in forensic science and they also have an effect in courtrooms, creating an increased demand for the skills. It is a cultural issue. These shows somehow passed to the public the impression that everything has to be supported by forensic evidence, so courtrooms more and more are demanding it. The time when somebody saw something and reported it and that was enough evidence is gone forever. Now they want DNA, they want trace analysis etc. Even the juries are more demanding for scientific articulation of the exchanged information in the courtroom.
The Forensic Program at Pace University, both graduate and undergraduate, was founded a decade ago and it is distinguished from other similar programs because of its scientific rigor and organizational flexibility. It is build on top of two strong academic departments, the Chemistry and the Biology, whose faculty members combine exceptional teaching skills and pioneering published research in their fields.
