Art, BS (PLV)
Offered on the Pleasantville campus, our program provides you a broad education in both the art and design fields. You choose from course offerings in painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, and art history, as well as interior design, architecture, and ceramics courses distinctive to the Pleasantville campus. Advanced inter-media studio courses facilitate experimentation with materials and a dialogue across artistic disciplines. In our signature learning community courses, you will be encouraged to link artistic production with topics in other fields including literature, philosophy, business, or science.
In small classes that allow for a high degree of individual attention, you learn from our outstanding faculty of internationally recognized professional artists and seasoned educators committed to fostering an active learning environment. Field trips, visiting artist presentations, and close student advisement augment lectures, demonstrations, readings and studio assignments. Given our proximity to New York City, you have the ability to learn firsthand from current exhibitions in galleries and museums. On campus, the Choate Gallery exhibits faculty and student work, and exhibitions with a thematic focus. A five-week summer program in Florence, Italy, in association with the Accademia di Bella Arti, affords you the opportunity to live and work in Italy, and to exhibit your work with Italian art students’ work.
