The Graduate Public Administration Department offers three certificate programs for those who wish to enhance their credentials but may not be ready to fully commit to a master’s program. These programs are Health Care Policy and Management, Long Term Care Management and Practice, and Not-For-Profit Management, each consisting of five courses that can be completed in approximately one year and designed to help students achieve the edge needed to expand their career opportunities. They are offered at the Graduate Center in White Plains, conveniently accessible by train, bus and major highways.
Offered in conjunction with the Master of Public Administration Program, these programs utilize the same facilities and curriculum, and credits earned in them may be applied to the master's program if you decide to matriculate later. Note that the GRE exam is not required for entry into the certificate program; however, students must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average to complete the program.
- The Health Care Policy and Management certificate program is ideal for individuals in management or administrative positions within the health care industry.
- The Long Term Care Management and Practice certificate program is of benefit to health care administrators and satisfies one of the major prerequisites for the New York State nursing home administrator licensure examination.
The Not-For-Profit Management certificate program is geared toward public managers in the nonprofit sector with previous management experience or with advanced professional degrees. Students choose from the following focus areas:
- Managerial Skills Enhancement: for those in or preparing for a career as a manager or administrator of a non-profit organization
- Leadership Development: designed for those interested in planning for and implementing social change
- Social Entrepreneurship: this subspecialization is ideal for those in the private sector who have a particular interest in the social implication of for-profit business activities
