Dr. Aseel Sawalha

 

 

Dr. Aseel Sawalha is an urban anthropologist.  Dr. Sawalha conducted fieldwork for her Ph.D. dissertation in the city of Beirut, Lebanon, wherein her research explores the ways in which various readings of the past inform and shape debates over identity, ethnicity, culture and gender relations in the context of urban reconstruction and recovery in postwar Beirut. Before Beirut,  her research was among Palestinian Refugees women in Amman, Jordan and in a nomadic (Bedouin) community in south Jordan. At Pace University, she teaches the following courses: Introduction to Anthropology, Urban Ethnography: New York, Global Cultures Local Identities, Women and Warfare, and Peoples and Cultures of the Middle East.
