Professor
Benjamin B. Tucker has more than 30 years of experience in the field of criminal
justice. He is an expert on policing and police management, who began his
career in the New York City Police Department. Immediately before joining
the Pace faculty, Professor Tucker was Deputy Director for Operations, at
the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing
Services. In that capacity he oversaw the day-to-day grant making, program
development and training and technical assistance operations that provided
funding in excess of $1 Billion annually to state and local police
agencies. His previous positions include serving as Deputy Director for
the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board, Assistant Director for
law enforcement services in the New York City Mayor's office, Executive
Director of the New York City Human Rights Commission, Director of
Operations in the Manhattan Borough President's office.
Tucker was also Senior Research Associate and Director of Field
Operations at the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia
University, where he helped design, implement and oversee multi-site
program demonstration projects based on services integration focused on
at-risk populations. Tucker is currently working as a consultant to Abt.
Associates, Inc, as well as providing technical assistance to the
Philadelphia Police Department in its effort to implement a model protocol
to address the crime of stalking. Professor
Tucker received his Bachelor of Science degree from the John Jay College
of Criminal Justice, and his Juris Doctor degree from the Fordham
University School of Law.
