Dr. Joseph R. Franco

 

Dr. Joseph R. Franco is Associate Dean for the Dyson College of Arts & Sciences and Associate Professor of Sociology at Pace University.  Dr. Franco has been at Pace since l987 and has eighteen years of teaching experience in Sociology, Psychology, and Behavioral Science and has twenty years of experience in administration including Career Services & Cooperative Education, Academic Advising, Admissions/Continuing Education, and Financial Aid.  He teaches undergraduate courses in Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, Medical Sociology, and Social Stratification.  Additionally, Dr. Franco has provided students with the opportunity to gain direct experience with juveniles at residential treatment facilities and detention centers, as well as prisons, and a wide-variety of other social service related agencies. 

Dr. Franco received a Ph.D. in Sociology from City University of New York Graduate Center with a specialization in Race & Ethnic Relations.  He also received an M.S. in Social Science with a specialization in Criminal Justice, an M.S. in Counseling & Development from Long Island University, and a B.S. in Psychology from Mercy College.  Dr. Franco has presented at both regional and national conferences and has published articles in peer reviewed journals including Western Criminology Review, The Mid-Atlantic Journal of Business, & Analytic Teaching.  Additionally, he has recently reviewed and edited a Medical Sociology text.

  Dr. Franco is a National Certified Counselor with research interests in criminal behavior, juvenile delinquency and ethnic and cultural relations.
