If students have questions and they don’t know whom to ask, often the best place to start is with their Academic Advisers. DysonÙs team of advisers are students’ go-to source for all kinds of information, including class schedules, waivers, study abroad, help choosing a major or minor, grade appeals, and they can also help students find additional resources.
“As the supervisor of advising, my goal has been to implement a program where students feel they can reach out on any question related to majors, minors and the core curriculum and feel a high level of comfort,” said Senior Associate Dean Joseph Franco. “Our current advising staff is outstanding, tireless, and they are true student advocates. In situations where students are having difficulties financially, academically, and personally, they serve as mentors.”
Two years ago, Dyson added graduate assistants to the advising team on both campuses.
“They have been an integral part of the program in terms of advising students, assisting with schedules, and in daily office tasks,” said Franco. “They really connect with students. Students feel really comfortable talking with them. They understand the Pace system inside and out.”
The Dyson Advising staff is also a great resource to Pace staff and faculty, who often have questions about the core curriculum and academic policies.
While some students may find that working with one adviser is most comfortable, any of the advisers can help at any time. For each campus, there is an advising team. In New York, that team includes Senior Academic Adviser Heather Calchera (she does double-duty working on both the downtown campus and in Pleasantville), Academic Adviser Elizabeth “Liz” Blank, Graduate Assistants Annie Blinkoff and Amy Reale, and Administrative Assistant Tina Wilson. In Pleasantville, in addition to Heather, there is Academic Adviser Alexandra “Ali” Sansone, and Graduate Assistants Christina Musso and Maria Shirling.
