Dyson Employee & Daughter Both Don Cap & Gown
Cheryl Baa and Carol Dollison
It isn’t very often when a mother and daughter earn their college degrees at the same time, but long-time Dyson employee, Carol Dollison, and her daughter, Cheryl Baa, have done just that. Carol and Cheryl will be receiving their diplomas together at this year’s commencement ceremony on May 24 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Carol has worked at Pace for 18 years, and for the past six years has worked in Dyson’s English department as a staff assistant. Carol, who is receiving a BA in Human Relations/Applied Psychology, says that one of the highlights of her studies has been her internship experience with Visiting Neighbors, an organization that connects volunteers with elderly individuals in various Manhattan and Queens-based communities. In visits that brighten the day of homebound seniors, Carol says, “I really enjoyed spending time just chatting with these people and providing them with a friendly ear. It also gave me the chance to apply what I learned in the classroom in a real-life situation.” Carol is seeking opportunities to advance her career at Pace and is interested in working more closely with students, potentially as an academic advisor.
Cheryl is receiving a BBA in International Marketing and says that one of her most influential professors was marketing professor Paul Kurnit. “His classes were very interesting because he has so much knowledge about international marketing. Working on the team projects was a great learning experience and a lot of fun, too.” Cheryl is seeking marketing opportunities with multinational corporations and is especially interested in a career in the fashion industry.
Carol, Cheryl, and 13-year-old daughter Christal, reside in Far Rockaway in Queens, where they enjoy many outdoor activities, including roller skating, and going to the movies.
