For the first time this year, during the Dyson Society of Fellow Annual Meeting on March 1, 2009, awards were presented to students in a variety of disciplines.
The award winners are:
Gianna Sandri, Creative Work: “Caution Obstruction in View: A collection of poems”; faculty mentor: JaneCollins.
Nichole Lefebvre, Humanities: “The Sorcerer’s Stone, Mirror of Erised, and Horcruxes: Choice, Individuality, and Authenticity in Harry Potter”; faculty mentor: Gene Richie.
Mary Catherine Breed, Women’s Studies: “Critiques of Feminine Leadership in Shakespeare’s Richard II”; faculty mentor: Sid Ray.
John Ponessa, Chemistry: “Evaluation of Novel Compounds Targeting Cryptosporidium parvum”; faculty mentor: Nigel Yarlett.
Gabriel De Leon, Biology: “A novel way to induce cancer cell suicide”; faculty mentor: Nancy Krucher.
Other announcements from the annual meeting include:
Professors Anya Morlan, JaimeLee Rizzo, and Ross Robak have been elected to the Board of the Dyson Society of Fellows. Professor Roger Salerno is the new editor of Transactions. The Dyson Society of Fellows will name the Class of 2009 in honor of Dean Nira Herrmann.
This year’s Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2009 on the New York Campus. The ceremony will include a mini-seminar on Social Psychology presented by members of the Pleasantville Psychology department.
