Dyson College of Arts and Sciences

A Message from the Dean

Thank you for considering Pace University for your graduate studies in arts and sciences. I know you will find Pace's Dyson College a welcoming and supportive environment in which to learn.

The Dyson College of Arts and Sciences offers graduate degrees and advanced professional training in selected fields of particular relevance to contemporary society: counseling, environmental science, psychology, public sector management, publishing and school-clinical child psychology.

As with Dyson College's undergraduate experience, our graduate programs offer a highly participatory education in which the student is an active player, not a passive recipient of knowledge. Faculty members, many of whom are working professionals in their fields, carefully balance theory with practical applications. In addition to the acquisition of knowledge, emphasis is placed on critical thinking, problem-solving and oral and written communication. In preparing students for leadership roles, stress is placed on life-long learning, social responsibility, and professional capability.

On the issue of social responsibility, Dyson College leads by example. The College is actively engaged in partnerships with the community. For example, faculty and students provide research and training to municipalities through the Michaelian Institute for Public Policy and Management. The Dyson College also fulfills community needs for a variety of services through the Thomas J. McShane Center for Psychological Services and the Children's Institute. In addition, faculty, students and staff share their time and talents with many organizations through the College's VIA PACE (Volunteers in Action at Pace University) program.

How you learn can be as important as what you learn. At Pace, you will find high quality teaching in a supportive environment, where students participate fully in their education. It is an environment conducive to learning, and the successes of our graduates verify its effectiveness.

Your interest in Pace University, and its Dyson College of Arts and Sciences is appreciated. I look forward to welcoming you to the University and having you learn with us.

Charles D. Masiello, Ph.D.
