Legal Academic and English Skills Course
Fall II 2012 October 23 - December 11, 2012 (7 weeks) Spring I 2013 February 5 - March 21, 2013 (7 weeks) Spring II 2013 April 2 - May 16, 2013 (7 weeks) Summer I 2013 May 30 - July 19, 2013 (6 weeks) This course is designed for prospective and current international graduate law students to provide them with the language and academic skills needed to succeed in an American law school as well as the English necessary for legal purposes and understanding of American laws. A legal academic and English skills-based approach with legal content will be used to introduce prospective international graduate law students and lawyers to legal writing, reading, listening and speaking skills required for graduate law school in the United States |

Course Descriptions
Legal Writing : This course provides practice in writing legal English. Writing skills taught will include outlining, summarizing, paraphrasing, synthesizing, persuading, and developing academic legal style.
Reading Legal Materials : This course is designed to help LL.M. students learn reading strategies for processing legal texts.
Listening and Speaking Skills for Law School : This course provides practice with a variety of speaking activities common in an American law school class, including asking and answering questions, debates, discussions, and presentations.
American Law and Legal Education : This course is designed to introduce the international LL.M. student to American law by examining U.S. Common Law reasoning and analysis and the traditions on which it is based, the U.S. federal system, and U.S. Law School curriculum, pedagogy, examinations, grading, and student expectations.
