Pre-Masters Program
Pre-Masters Program and ELI Orientation
As a Pace University Pre-Masters Program student, you will need to complete further English language study before beginning your graduate program. The reason is that your performance on the TOEFL or IELTS is below Pace University requirements. This means that you will study at the English Language Institute for at least one semester before beginning your degree program. The Pre-Masters Program will prepare you to succeed in your graduate program at Pace University.
You will take an English language placement exam at the required ELI Orientation on Wednesday, August 31. At this time you will be placed into the appropriate English level. Students placed directly into the Pre-Masters Program typically complete their studies in one semester. Students placed at a lower level will need one semester for each level they must complete through the Pre-Masters level.
You will study full time in the English Language Institute until you achieve the English level necessary to succeed in your graduate program. In order to demonstrate that you can succeed in your graduate program, you will need to do one of the following:
- Successfully complete the Pre-Masters Program with a “B or better” average, score above the minimum on the speaking and writing exit exams, and receive the recommendation of the English Language Institute Program, or
- Submit a TOEFL iBT score of 100 or an IELTS score of 7.0 to the Graduate Admissions office
Students who are planning to apply for a graduate program but have not yet done so may attend the ELI Orientation and Placement Test. At this time you will be placed into the appropriate English level. If you are interested in attending, please contact us English Language Institute, Westchester.
