  • Grammar and Conversation: In this grammar course, students develop the form, meaning, and use of English grammar structures. These structures will help students understand and communicate better in social and academic situations.
  •  Pronunciation and Conversation: The pronunciation and speaking class is designed to help non-native speakers of English speak clearly and effectively, increase self-confidence, and learn speech monitoring abilities. The focus of this class will be on becoming more comfortable listening to rapidly spoken English and learning common expressions and idioms used in formal and informal contexts. Students practice these skills in listening and speaking homework assignments and in individual or group presentations.
  • Professional and Business English: Skills for Success: The instructor will guide students through a hands-on experience in writing effective professional e-mails, creating their own American-style résumé, participating in mock job interviews, engaging in negotiation meetings, setting up an effective professional social media profile and more. The course will be open to intermediate level English speaker and above.
  • Professional and Business English: Negotiation Skills: The instructor will guide students through a hands-on experience in professional and business negotiations. The course will prepare students to discuss jobs and projects, manage conflict, make and respond to proposals, and understand the needs of all sides.
  • TOEFL Preparation: Learn test strategies and review grammar and vocabulary including Paper-based TOEFL Institutional Test. The test will be given after the class on the last day of the course. 20 hours including the test.

Integrated Skills: Monday AND Wednesday 7:00p.m. – 9:30p.m. Au Pair Price $260 including the material fee (regular price $400)

36 hours including the special assignment*
Improve grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, and conversation.

In one 7-week term (14 class meetings), a student receives 36 hours including the special assignment*.

Weekend Intensive Program

The weekend course registration/payment will be taken online only. PLEASE NOTE: Online registration system shows up-to-date REAL-TIME information. If the online registration system indicates there is no seat available, that is the most updated informaiton.

The course runs from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The course *requires a four-hour assignment that must be completed before the start of the weekend course. The assignment will be email to your email address that you used to register for the course one or two weeks before the start of the course. The weekend course costs $210 for 20 hours. There is also an option to write a five-page post-assignment based on the course for an additional 20 hours which is $165. The 40-hour option costs $375. Please note that attendance on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm is mandatory in order to earn hours. No partial credit awarded.

Refund & Cancellation Policies - Please read the online registration payment/refund policies as they are different from other programs.

Please note that enrollment is limited and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. No registration will be accepted until payment has been received. This requirement applies to all participants.

Registrants who cancel their registration by 5:00pm (EST) on the Wednesday of the week prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. No refunds will be granted after that date. You must email eliwc@pace.edu by the designated time to inform us of your intent to cancel. Pace University reserves the right to substitute instructors, change the day or time a program meets, or cancel programs due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen events. In some cases, the course may meet on our Pleasantville Campus. If a class is canceled, a FULL refund will be issued.

October 8th and 9th: American Humor (Registration in Progress!! online registration/payment system. )

What’s so funny? Expand your knowledge of American culture through the study of humor. Learn how humor has changed over the year from slapstick to the romantic comedy to adult humor. We will view and discuss humor as it appear in different media.

012B: 20 Hours Credit October 8 and 9. From 9am-5pm each day. Fees for two days: $210

012C: 20 Hours Credit - Post- assignment (research essay). Post Assignment (Research Essay.) You must register for 012B in order to register for 012C. You cannot register for 012C course only. Research Essay Due 11/9. $165. Students must complete a post-course five -page research essay.

October 15th and 16th: Cross-Cultural Communication (Registration in Progress!! online registration/payment system. )

Expand your cultural awareness as you explore cultural communication patterns of the US versus those of other countries. Ex- amine ways of life, dominant attitudes, social relations, business practices and patterns of thinking. We will then consider strategies for overcoming communication barriers and accomplish communicative goals. Join us for this lively and interactive course.

012B: 20 Hours Credit. October 15th and 16th. From 9am-5pm each day. Fees for two days: $210

October 29 and 30: American Studies Through Film  (Registration in Progress!! online registration/payment system. )

Gain new insights into American culture and learn how the U.S. varies from region to region. Explore cultural diversity of the country through the lens of critically acclaimed documentary films that will touch your heart and open your mind. Participate in lively discussions and group activities. Join us for this interactive and informative weekend.

012B:  20 Hours Credit July 30th and 31st.  From 9am-5pm each day.  Fees for two days:  $210

Au Pair TOEFL Blast! Fridays

From July 2016, we will initiate the online registration/credit card payment system, and the tuition will be $250. From July, the Au Pair TOEFL Blast! Fridays course registration/payment will be taken online only.

TOEFL BLAST Fridays Time: 9:30-1pm (7 class meetings/ 24 hours / 2 au pair credits)

This course prepares you to reach iBT and paper-based TOEFL score goals by teaching every aspect of the test including grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, speaking and test strategies. More than 9,000 universities and colleges in over 130 countries accept or require a TOEFL score.
Many employers require a TOEFL score as a requisite for employment. Don’t miss this opportunity to boost your resume or CV. At the end of the course, students will take the Institutional TOEFL ITP (paper based) exam. The test will be administered on the last day of the class at 11:00am.

How Can You Make the 72-hour/6-Credit Requirement?

There are several ways for you to get 72 hours/6 credits by taking courses in multiple sessions or combining programs. Learn various ways to make the 72-hour/6-credit requirement.


Registration

Students are required to register prior to the first class meeting. For insurance reasons, students who are not registered are not allowed to sit in a classroom. Please note we cannot accept the registration and the payment via email.

  • Saturday and Evening Students: Please submit the Registration form, Payment/Refund Policies and a payment to the ELI office to reserve your seat for a course. Without your receiving registration and payment, we cannot reserve a seat. Please make your check or money order payable to “Pace University.” The au pair’s name should be written in the memo section of the check. If you pay with a money order, please bring it to our office. ELI cannot be responsible for money orders lost in the mail.
  • Weekday Morning Intensive Program Students: Please submit the Registration form, Payment/Refund Policies and a check payment payable to “Pace University” prior to or on the day of the Placement Test. The au pair’s name should be written in the memo section of the check.  Continuing students need not take the placement test again. If you pay with a money order, please bring it to our office. ELI cannot be responsible for money orders lost in the mail.
  • Weekday Intensive and TOEFL Blasts Students: If you drive to the campus, and need a parking tag, please fill out the Car Registration. Please park at the designated locations.

Academic Policies for Au Pair Students to Earn Hours

Saturday Program, Evening Program, and Intensive English Program

  • ATTENDANCE - Students must attend all class meetings including weather-related make-ups. Please inform your instructor or the ELI Office if you must miss a class. Students may miss a maximum of 2 class meetings in the Intensive and Evening Programs, and a maximum of 1 class meeting in the Saturday Program. After the second missed class meeting for the Intensive and Evening Programs, and after the first missed class meeting in the Saturday Program, student must submit a makeup assignment. If any additional class meeting is missed, you will only receive credit for the number of hours actually attended.
  • ELECTRONIC DEVICES - Your instructor will establish rules for using electronic devices such as computers and cell phones in class. You are required to follow these rules.

Weekday Intensive Students and TOEFL Blast Fridays Students only: Please fill out the Application for Car Registration, and bring it to the placement test (Weekday Intensive students only) or the first day of your class.


ID Policies

Saturday, Evening, TOEFL Blast, and Weekday Intensive students will receive an ELI ID card. Please keep the card with you if you plan to continue or if you think you may take our courses in the future. You will be charged $20 if you need the replacement card. Please be informed that Weekend Intensive students will not receive the ID card. The policies are in effect from Summer II 2016 students.
