RES 296C Special Topic-The World Religions & The Natural Environment (3 credits)
This course will examine the teachings of the great world religions - Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Taoism - about the natural world and the place of human beginnings in it. Issues that will be examined will include: In what sense is the material universe real? Was it created by God?--and what does creation mean? What is the religious significance of biological death? Are human beings the rulers of the world? Are they stewards for God? Do human beings have responsibilities toward other forms of life? Do they have some kind of responsibility to the universe as a whole?
