Jessica Mills, or “Jessie” as her friends call her, is a 21-year-old, senior majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Spanish. When choosing her major, Jessie knew education would be a great fit because she loves working with children. The Spanish minor evolved from her appreciation and fascination with world cultures. Jessie also describes herself as being loyal, analytical, caring, and “always down for a good time.”

Although, Jessie grew up on a small farm in Cato, New York, she is no “country bumpkin.” She loves to travel and explore. In years past, Jessie modeled in Italy, studied abroad for a semester at the University of Segovia in Spain, and made an effort to see as much of Europe as possible. She is also a big fan of spontaneous road trips here in the United States. Jessie is the type of person who seeks to experience new and exciting things.

College, of course, has been one of the many experiences that Jessie says she has truly enjoyed. She says that her friends and fellow classmates have made her time at Pace great. One of her best memories here at Pace is being snowed in at New Dorm with some close friends just before spring break of 2007.

This past summer, Jessie showed her appreciation for Pace while serving as the Youth Coordinator for Pace University’s orientation program. There she met families of incoming first-year students and watched over some of their younger siblings as orientation took place.

In her spare time, Jessie enjoys working at My Gym in Yonkers, a children’s fitness center. She also enjoys volunteering, along with family members, at the Special Olympics in both Syracuse and Oswego, New York. To add to her list of activities, Jessie will be joining the Pace equestrian team for the first time this year, as well. With the five days a week of student teaching she will be doing this spring, Jessie looks forward to a busy year.

To her fellow classmates, Jessie advises, “Remember balance… in everything you do,” a theory she abides by to help her manage social time and her demanding schoolwork

In the future, Jessie aspires to go abroad and travel the world. She hopes to one day teach English as a foreign language in Asia and, ultimately, to pursue a doctoral degree.
