joemelilloJoe Melillo is a senior Management major with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. At 21-years-old, this guy does it all. He is a resident assistant in Dow Hall, an Honors student, a member of Pace Inspirational Praise Ensemble (P.I.P.E), a brother of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity, a senator for NIC, a volunteer for New York City Relief, a bartender, and a manger at two local restaurants. Joe came to Pace University as a freshman in the Fall semester of 2004 as a commuter student. Despite not living in the dorms, Joe became a fixture on campus, often seen at club meetings, events, and hanging out in the dorms. He became commonly known as “Commuter Joe,” a name that he hopes will still stick around even though he is no longer a commuter. He says this name was given to him by a friend who was sick of hearing people ask what dorm he lived in.

Eventually, Joe found that he loved being on campus so much that he wanted to make the move from a commuter lifestyle to a dorm lifestyle. At the end of his sophomore year, Joe decided to apply for an R.A. position, which he received. Joe felt that he was already doing the job of an R.A. anyway. “I was here so often, and every party or event I went to, I never drank, always looked out for my friends, and kept people out of trouble,” he says.

Joe says he has loved his college years and his time at Pace, saying that Pace University has some of the best people he has ever known. He reminds his fellow classmates, “These four years may be the last we'll ever get to devote to bettering ourselves through knowledge.” Joe lives by this statement and has immersed himself in every available opportunity Pace University has offered him. Joe says, “I have a small passion for each club or organization I'm in, especially APD, and devote as much time and energy as I can to each. I like to be as busy as possible because I feel that I perform best when I have a lot of pressure to do so.”

In the future, Joe has several endeavors he would like to pursue. Joe aspires to manage a branch of a non-profit organization, preferably an anti-tobacco agency. He says. “I have very strong feelings about this industry and would love to be able to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on it.” He is also involved with an online marketing website and looks forward to its progression and success. Finally, Joe enjoys writing and performing his own songs and hopes to continue moving people through his music.
