Honors Ice Cream Ice Breaker

Join the Pforzheimer Honors College for ice cream and the opportunity to meet fellow Honors students. The advisors from various honor societies on campus will inform students about each of their prestigious organizations. 

 

Window to the World: Children, Culture, and Character in Kenya

Mark Maxam, a Peace Corps Volunteer, science teacher, and Executive Director of Jua (a nonprofit organization providing solar lighting to rural elementary schools in Kenya), will present a slide show on life in Kenya. His focus will be primarily on children, the educational system, and culture in that part of the world. This thought-provoking presentation will also give students the opportunity to ask questions and share their views.

Professor Susan Crawford will host a screening of "Big Night," directed by and starring the actor Stanley Tucci.   This is the story of two brothers, Primo and Secondo, who have come to America to fulfill their dream of running the best Italian restaurant ever. Their struggle to survive in the competitive and fickle world of restaurateurs is alternately hilarious and touching. Staking everything on one big night, the brothers invite a famous singer to perform. And then the work begins, as Primo and Secondo create the menu masterpiece that will prove their genius once and for all. Unexpected complications result in the biggest night of their lives. If you love life, and if you love Italian food - you'll love this film!

We are also inviting seniors from the "College Outreach to Seniors Program" to take part in this event.

Trip to the Central Park Zoo

Bus leaves Pace at 9:00am from North Hall on the Pleasantville campus, should return by 3:00pm.

Explore the Central Park Zoo, in the middle of Manhattan, with a guided tour of the entire zoo. Lunch will not be provided, but food will be available at the Zoo.

Professor Robert Klaeger will host a screening of "Hope and Glory" directed by John Boorman.   This film is about a nine year old boy called Bill as he grows up in London during the blitz of World War II.   For a young boy, this time in history was an adventure, a total upheaval of order, restrictions, and discipline.   We are also inviting seniors from the "College Outreach to Seniors Program" to take part in this event.

The Honors College and the Center for Community Outreach will decorate different cottages for the holidays at the Pleasantville Cottage School, while getting an introduction to residential treatment centers from Phina Geiger, Director of Volunteers, at the Pleasantville Cottage School.

Trip to TRL on MTV

The Pace bus will leave Miller Hall at 1:20pm to catch the 1:43pm Metro-North train from Pleasantville. You will have to pay for your own train ticket…$16.25 for the round trip ticket. We need to arrive at TRL before 3:30pm. The live show begins at 5:00pm. Students must wear bright colors, no white clothing.
