NCHC Conference in New Orleans, LA

Tuesday, November 10 - Saturday, November 13, 2004

On Wednesday, November 10, 2004 Honors College Advisor Christopher Walther and Editor of Scholastica Christine Friary packed their suitcases and ventured down to the spicy city of New Orleans, LA to attend the National Collegiate Honors Council Annual Conference. Upon arrival at the conference, Professor Walther attended sessions with other Honors professionals to discuss a myriad of topics ranging from assessment in Honors to obtaining undergraduate scholarships. In addition, the conference hosted a “Consultants Lounge”, where experienced Honors Deans and Directors from various universities offered their expert advise on Honors-related issues. Christine Friary was also able to gather additional valuable information for the Honors College. She attended several conference sessions that showcased student research, featured student-run panels, and discussed the role of students at the NCHC Conference.

The Pforzheimer Honors College recognizes the value of the National Collegiate Honors Council in the development and advancement of its own program. Therefore, it hopes to take on a more active role in the 2005 annual conference by possibly taking additional students, submitting student papers or projects, or hosting its own conference session on “Civic Engagement in Honors”.

If any student or faculty member would like some additional information on how they can become an NCHC member or possibly attend the 2005 conference please email Christopher Walther at CWalther@pace.edu.
