Open Meeting
 November 14, 2005

On Monday, November 14, 2005, seventy-one Honors student filled Gottesman Room for the Honors Open Meeting, held each semester.  From 12:20 to 1:25, Common Hour, students enjoyed an array of chocolate treats and punch as Dr. Benton led the meeting.  After welcoming everyone, she introduced Professor Peter Edelstein, professor of Law.  Professor Edelstein spoke on the top ten things that he learned in 62 years.  He gave advice that all Honors students could relate to, such as wear sunscreen, drink a lot of water, tell your parents “I love you,” and talk to your siblings every day.  More importantly, he said to find what you love and do it.  He spoke of finding his love for the water and how he takes advantage of his free time by boating and other water-related activities.  “I really enjoyed his speech.  He was not only entertaining, but inspiring,” said Danielle Ricciardi, a first-year Honors student.  All students enjoyed Professor Edelstein’s speech as the room filled with laughter over his humorous jokes.  He even quoted The Black Eyed Peas.  In closing, he said “Live and love every day with passion,” a phrase we should all keep in mind.  After Professor Edelstein’s speech, Dr. Benton took over, asking students what they wanted as far as Honors events go for the Spring 2006 semester.  The meeting ran late so students had to leave before professors could be discussed, but some students stayed late to talk to Dr. Benton one-on-one on the subject.
