Decorating the Pleasantville Cottage School
The holiday season is a time to be thankful for everything you have and to provide help to the less fortunate so they can also have an enjoyable holiday. Honors College students did just that on Saturday, December 6, 2008. Early that morning, the Honors College students gathered to take a bus ride to the Pleasantville Cottage School to help bring holiday cheer to the children. Upon their arrival, students were split up into four groups to decorate four different cottages. Students went to their respective cottages to begin their work armed with wrapping paper, ribbons, scissors, and garlands.
The children of the Pleasantville Cottage School greeted all the Honors students with great excitement and big smiles. Each Honors student partnered with a child or two and began decorating their cottage. The children were very enthusiastic and had huge plans for decorating their buildings. In the blink of an eye, the plain rooms of the cottages became bright with colors of the holiday season. Upon finishing their work, the Honors students wished the Pleasantville children a happy holiday and received an overwhelming collective “Thank you!” from the children.
The Honors students left the Pleasantville Cottage School with a great feeling — the result of having helped make a positive difference in the children’s holiday. The smiling and laughing that took place during the decorating was a clear sign that the Honors students’ efforts were well appreciated. It was an experience that not only benefited the Pleasantville Cottage School children, but the Honors students as well.
