Pace Reads

On Sunday, October 19th, several Pace University Honors Students gathered together from 1pm to 3pm in the children’s reading room of the Mt. Pleasant Public Library. There, they read books to children of the Pleasantville community. Children invited to this event included those from the Pleasantville Cottage School, Bedford Road School, and Pleasantville Middle School.

Make a Difference Day is a national service day dedicated to helping other people; it is a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. The Pace students who read at this event made a difference in the lives of the children who listened to the stories. Reading aloud to a child allows them to expand their imaginations and think creatively.  As Prof. Christopher Walther said, “Everyone had fun.”

Due to the proximity of that child-favorite holiday, Halloween, the children asked to hear Halloween-related stories. Some of the Halloween stories chosen included theBerenstain Bears and Arthur.

The newly-painted windows, part of a Pleasantville community project to decorate windows for Halloween, provided the perfect backdrop for the read-aloud.
