Paint a School

Paint-a-School

Pace students gathered together on Saturday, October 18th, for the annual Paint-a-School event.  P.S. 47 in the Bronx direly needed its murals repainted since graffiti had been drawn all over them. Also, the playground, once vibrant with hop-scotch lines and other artwork, now looked washed out.  Even the surrounding fences were showing signs of wear.  The inside of the school needed some work as well, with faded paint on the staircases and dust in the classrooms.  This school cried for a serious face-lift and Pace students were more than prepared to face the challenge.

Students were split up into groups to work inside and outside the school.  Painting began around 9:30am and students wasted no time in beginning their work.  After a couple hours passed, the graffiti on the murals had been painted over, the playground’s faded lines were beautiful again, the school’s staircases looked brand new, and the classrooms never looked cleaner.

Pizza was served at lunchtime to the hardworking students and although the day was almost over, one task remained.  The outside fence still needed to be finished, so students grabbed their brushes and in a joint effort made the fence look almost brand new.

Overall, the day was filled with a tremendous display of effort.  Although there was much hard work to be done, students had a great deal of fun helping to make the children’s place of learning more colorful.  The event was a great success for both the students of Pace University and the children of P.S. 47.
