Wrapping Gifts for Underprivileged Children

Wrapping Gifts

On Tuesday, December 2, merry members of the Pforzheimer Honors College, along with members of the Golden Key International Honor Society got a head start on their holiday gift wrapping. However,  these gifts were not to go to their own families or to personal friends, but rather to their friends within the community, specifically those of the Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry and the Pleasantville Cottage School.

Director of Volunteers at the Children’s Village, Ms Candida Fitts, addressed the hoards of students crowding the tables of Gottesman Room. She shared her thoughts on how this simple act of compassion brings the joy of the season to these less fortunate children year after year. It was all worthwhile knowing the children would smile upon seeing a wrapped gift just for them. Ms Fitts was accompanied by a therapy dog, Savannah, who brought her own kind of joy to the event.

After Ms Fitts’s speech, attendees wrapped gifts for boys and girls alike and topped them with bows, ribbons, and cards wishing the children Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. By the end of the event, mounds of presents were ready to be transported to the children’s residences. Overall, judging by the number of students at this event every year, it remains the most popular Honors event of the fall semester.
