Broadway Play

Trip to the Broadway Play
Thursday, March 2, 2006

On Thursday, March 2, 2006, Honors Students braved a harsh winter storm that struck our area to head to New York City to see the Broadway musical The 25th annual Putnam Count Spelling Bee.  Honors originally scheduled a buss to take students into the city, but due to the inclement weather, the University closed and all transportation provided by Pace stopped.  Excited students who still wanted to see the play trekked to the Pleasantville train station to take a train into Grand Central Station.  Once everyone was assembled, students broke off into small groups for a true New York City experience—a taxi ride to the theater.
Arriving a bit early, students mingled in the theater lobby which was decorated like an elementary school.  Theater goers had the chance to apply to actually partake in the show and Honors own Christina Ostran was one of four lucky volunteers.  She got to sit on stage, interact with the actors, and even spell a word.  Christina unfortunately got her first word wrong, though it seemed to be an extra hard one as to get her eliminated.  She was offered a hug and a box of juice and returned to her seat afterwards to enjoy the rest of the show.  “It was such a rush being on a Broadway stage,” says Ostran of her shot at fame.  “Definitely an experience I will never forget.”
