The Roots & Shoots program, part of the Jane Goodall Institute, is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. This powerful, youth-driven network fosters a fun, flexible, and supportive environment where young people and adults alike come together to share ideas and inspiration, implement successful community service projects and participate in special events and global campaigns.

Honors T-shirt Competition

Please use the website customink.com to design an Honors College T-shirt to be distributed to all Honors students who attend more than the minimum of two Honors events each semester.

Submit all entries to the Honors College Office by Thursday, March 8 and voting will take place on Monday, March 12 at the Honors Open Meeting. The winning T-shirt design will be announced in the April issue of Scholastica.



Trip to a Broadway Play: Chicago

Come join the Honors College as we travel into Manhattan to see the world-renowned Broadway play, Chicago.  Students will pay $30, which is half of the ticket price, to make their reservation. We will catch the 5:45 pm Metro-North train from Pleasantville.  You will have to pay for your own train ticket ($17.00 round trip).  The play begins at 8:00pm.

Chicago follows “not your usual housewife,” Roxie Hart, who gains dubious notoriety when she kills her boyfriend, invents her defense and manipulates everyone from her trustworthy husband to the fickle media and the unsuspecting public.

Honors Writing Competition
Entries must be submitted to the Honors Office on the 3rd floor or Mortola Library by Monday, April 2, 2007.

Enter by writing an essay or poem (may include artwork) explaining: “How has the Honors College enhanced your University experience?” Essay must be 500 words minimum! Prize: $100 America Express Gift Card and your work will be published in Scholastica!

Trip to TRL on MTV

The Pace bus will leave Miller Hall at 1:20pm to catch the 1:43pm Metro-North train from Pleasantville.  You will have to pay for your own train ticket ($17.00 round trip).  We need to arrive at TRL before 3:30pm.  The live show begins at 5:00pm.  Students must wear bright colors (no white clothing).

UNICEF is the world’s leading children's rights organization, operating in 158 countries and territories around the world. UNICEF's mission is to provide special protection for the most disadvantaged children: victims of war, disasters, extreme poverty, all forms of violence and exploitation, and those with disabilities.

SurfAid International Presentation and Dinner

Attend a presentation by SurfAid International, a non-profit humanitarian aid organization whose goal is to improve the health of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. SurfAid seeks the alleviation of suffering through health projects that enhance local capacities and promote community-based, self-help solutions, guided by the aspirations of its beneficiaries. Dinner will be served, Hawaiian style. Tickets can be purchase through the Honors College Office.

Graduating seniors will receive their Honors medallions to be worn at commencement and their Honors College certificates.  This event is open only to graduating seniors of the Pforzheimer Honors College and each senior may invite two guests.
