Cooking Classes

On March 28, 2008, Professor Walther took a group of twenty-two Honors students to MacMenamin’s Grill & ChefWorks in New Rochelle, NY for an interactive cooking class. The group was separated into three smaller groups and each was given a menu item to create under the watchful eye of Chef Instructor Stephanie.

The first group was to prepare and serve a salad composed of baby greens, roasted pears, caramelized onions, toasted walnuts, and goat cheese with sherry vinaigrette. The presentation and overall taste was outstanding.

The second group prepared the roasted garlic mashed potatoes and the chicken saltimbocca-- which is chicken with prosciutto and sage with a mushroom and wine sauce. The process was long and messy, but with help from the other groups and teamwork, the dish became a masterpiece.

For dessert, the third group prepared a luscious chocolate mousse with strawberries.

Everyone was left to do all the cooking for themselves with only a brief demonstration and a little guidance from Chef Stephanie. As Lara Bodenstab put it, “This experience is something I would love to do again with my friends or family. The food was amazing, and it was an interesting perspective to cook a gourmet meal yourself at a restaurant.”

MacMenamin’s offers many classes and events that are open to the public for registration. For further information visit www.macmenaminsgrill.com or call (914) 632-4900.
