Pilates Workshop

Pilates Workshop

On Thursday, April 24, 2008, a group of Honors College students attended an intense Pilates class under the instruction of Ms Lauri Nemetz. The students gathered and took their mats to the floor to begin a different kind of escape. Unlike yoga, Pilates works more intensively to target core muscles and build strength through various exercises.

Lauri showed each student how to properly work those muscles they are not always conscious that they are using. By targeting our core muscles through Joseph Pilates’s techniques, we were able to feel the workout and forget about the stresses outside of the aerobics room. “I’m an athlete and work out constantly, yet I was sore right after and two days later from the Pilates class. I would definitely do it again and cannot wait to take yoga with Lauri next semester!” said Joey Graboff.

Lauri is teaching credit and non-credit yoga classes next semester and looks forward to working with both the Honors College and non-Honors College students as she passes on her passion for living a healthy and fit life. I think I can speak for all those in attendance when I say this is the most anticipated Honors event at the end of every semester. Not only is it relaxing, but you learn a lot about yourself without even realizing it. We can only hope that Lauri will continue to teach the Honors College about staying in tune with your body and inner self for years to come!
