Tour of Meadowlands

Tour of the Meadowlands

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, twenty-five Honors students loaded onto a Pace bus en route to the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ. The group was excited to have a tour of the Meadowlands Race Track, the Izod Center, and Giants Stadium, home of the 2007 Superbowl Champions, the New York Football Giants.

The tour started at the Meadowlands Race Track. Everyone was handed a VIP pass and taken up to the viewing box by a tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the complex. The tour guide shared interesting facts about the horse racing industry and the daily races run at the sports complex.

Next, the group traveled across the highway to the newly re-named Izod Center where the New Jersey Devils hockey team formerly played and the New Jersey Nets basketball team still call home. Students were ushered into a luxury box that overlooked the vacant arena and learned more about the complex.

Finally, the tour guide led the way back over the highway again for the grand finale: Giants Stadium. Students, first, were taken up to the media/press room where only media people are granted special access on game days. Then, they were allowed to sit in the lavish box where news reporters watch the game as they were further educated about Giants Stadium and the new stadium that is expected to be in use by the 2009 season. After their briefing, everyone was taken down to the actual playing field and was able to walk out onto the fifty-yard line.

The tour was a once in a lifetime experience that all of Honors College members enjoyed thoroughly.
