UNICEF – United Nations Children’s Fund
UNICEF believes that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease, and discrimination place in a child’s path. UNICEF believes that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity. With its strong presence in 157 countries, UNICEF is the world's leading advocate for children.
Q: Why do children need a voice?
A:
· Everyday millions of children are exploited, abused, or are victims of violence.
· Every year, more than two million children die from diseases that could have been prevented by inexpensive vaccines.
· Bought and sold like commodities, children are forced to be soldiers, prostitutes, sweatshop workers, and servants  everyday throughout the developing world.
· The world’s two billion children and adolescents are at the center of the HIV/AIDS crisis. More than half of all new infections strike people under the age of 25. Girls are hit harder and younger than boys. Infant and child death rates have risen sharply, and 14 million children are now orphans because of the disease.
Q: What does UNICEF do?
A:
· UNICEF’s enduring goals include reaching each and every child with life-saving vaccines, ensuring education opportunities among young girls and taking measures towards the prevention of parent to child transmission of HIV/AIDS.         Â
· UNICEF has also taken a substantial initiative in confronting the issues of children who are caught up in conflict. UNICEF and its partner agencies are dedicating a large proportion of their resources to addressing the social and economic inequalities that can lead to violence, emphasizing outreach to vulnerable groups – including girls, residents of rural communities, and the poor – combating marginalization, defusing tensions and promoting effective social integration.
Q:Â What is Project C.H.I.L.D. all about?
A:
· Pace University Project C.H.I.L.D. strives to promote the survival, protection, and future development of children by advocating, educating, and fundraising for the world’s children.
· The primary goal of this organization is to encourage activism within the Pace University community by exposing members to the perils facing the world’s children and by providing opportunities to make a difference.
