Process for new students

Students newly admitted to Pace University will receive a housing application from Admissions. Housing is a limited resource at Pace.  We accept applications on an ongoing basis, and make housing assignments according availability.  In order to receive priority handling of your fall housing application, students apply prior to May 1.  Students applying for spring housing will only be placed on a first-come-first-serve basis pending availability.

The housing application will not be considered complete until the university has received a $100 Damage Deposit (refundable upon the conclusion of the student's final semester in university housing, less any damage charges) and a $400 pre-payment (non-refundable, credited toward the first semester's rent).

Students may indicate preferences at http://theroommateproject.org (this will become active for fall 2012 on June 15, 2012) for roommates, buildings and room types, but all placements are ultimately made on a space-available basis.  While we do our best to honor these preferences, Pace University cannot guarantee them.  Learn more about what to expect after you have applied and how to prepare for your arrival by reading our "Welcome To Pace NYC Housing" page.

Process for returning students

Current students planning to return to campus and seeking housing for the next academic year must participate in the Room Selection process to reserve a room.  This process is held each spring semester (for the following fall semester) and requires a deposit and application to be submitted in March, and participation in an online room seelection process in April.  Returning students who do not participate in this process will not be guaranteed housing for the following fall semester.  Complete information about the Room Selection Process can be found here.

Process for returning students who DID NOT go through April Room Selection Process

Returning students who apply for housing after May 1 are NOT guaranteed housing for the fall.  Returning students wishing to enter themselves onto the Non-Guaranteed Wait List must do so by August 1

  1. Returning students may continue to apply for housing and be placed on the Non-Guaranteed Wait List
  2. Students who wish to be placed on the non-guaranteed housing wait list for the fall must:
    • Turn in a Housing Assignment Application with approval for the $400.00 returning student deposit
    • Wait to hear from housing via your Pace e-mail account
  3. Students entered into the Non-Guaranteed Wait List in this way will be notified of their final room placement as soon as one can be made, which may last well into the academic year

Fall and Spring Housing Deposits

Both new and returning students who are applying for housing for the fall or spring semester must submit a $400 Housing Deposit (prepayment that will be applied to the first semester housing fee).   Newly applying students (or students who are reapplying after having previously cancelled housing) must submit an additional $100 damage deposit with their application.  The Housing Deposit Refund Policy is as follows:

  • The $100 damage deposit (less the cost of any outstanding damage charges) iis refundable to all students once they have formally cancelled housing (using the Housing Cancellation Form) and they have been confirmed as moved-out of the residence hall.
  • The $400 housing reservation pre-payment is handled as follows:
  1. There is no refund of the $400 housing reservation pre-payment for new students (newly applying first year, transfers and graduate students)
  2. Returning students are eligible for a refund of their $400 housing reservation pre-payment as follows:
  • Returning students who cancel their housing by May 1 will receive 100% of their deposit back.
  • Returning students who cancel their housing by June 1 will receive 75% of their deposit back.
  • Returning students who cancel their housing by July 1 will receive 50% of their deposit back.
  • Returning students who cancel their housing by August 1 will receive 25% of their deposit back.
  • Returning students who cancel their housing after August 1 will not receive any refund.

Please note that a separate deposit structure exists for summer housing (see link below).

Medical Accommodations

Students in need of medical accommodations must apply for such accommodations separately (in addition to submitting a housing application).  The medical accommodations application process begins with submitting a request to Jenna Cler in the University Counseling Center (163 William Street, 12th Floor, jcler@pace.edu).

Ms. Cler will interview the student, request supporting documentation from a medical provider, consider the accommodation(s) being requested, and then provide the office of housing and residential life with a recommendation for accommodation.  The student will receive a copy of the recommendation, and will also be required to meet with or speak with the director of housing or assistant director of housing.
