Room Selection Process 2013 (FOR CURRENT and RETURNING STUDENTS)
Housing Room Selection for the 2013-2014 Academic Year
(FOR CURRENT STUDENTS AND RETURNING RESIDENTS RESERVING A ROOM FOR FALL 2013 AND SPRING 2014)
Students planning to return to housing for the next academic year must participate in the Room Selection process to reserve a room. Returning students who do not participate in this process will not be guaranteed housing for the fall semester.
Please note: Current residents (and those who were residents in the preceding fall semester but are now on study abroad) have priority in this process. Students who are not currently in residence (or on study abroad) can deposit for housing, but will be invited to a "LATE" room selection process that will take place between the end of the "MAIN" room selection process and May 1. Returning students who do not complete all of the required room selection process stages by May 1 will not be guaranteed housing for the following fall term. They will need to apply in person in the housing office, and they will be placed on a waitlist for fall housing. Click here for more details.
Room selection is an online process, consisting of three easy stages (explained in detail below):
- Stage 1 – the deposit – due no later than April 5th
- Stage 2 – the application – due no later than April 5th
- Stage 3 – online room selection – will take place on the evenings of April 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th
Stage 1 – the deposit – DEADLINE April 5th
All students wishing to select a room for the new academic year must submit a housing deposit. To begin the process, you need to complete a Housing Deposit Form, which is available at the OSA, or at the housing office. Students will not be permitted to submit a housing deposit for Fall 2013 if their current account is not in good standing and paid in full. There will be no exceptions. The housing office will periodically send email reminders to current resident students who have not submitted a deposit.
Deposits are accepted between March 1 and April 5. To submit your deposit, bring the completed Housing Deposit Form and deposit ($400; may be paid by cash, check or credit card), to OSA.. Deposits cannot be accepted at the housing office or online. Payments must be made at OSA. Students who are currently on study abroad must contact the director of housing for the campus to which they are applying to arrange to make their deposit.
Important – housing will not be reserved for you simply because you submit a deposit. You MUST also complete Stage 2 and Stage 3.
Remember, in order to participate in room selection, your deposit must be received by April 5. If you wish to participate in room selection but something is preventing you from depositing (a hold, financial issues, etc.), please address those issues with OSA BEFORE the deposit deadline. These issues will not be considered excuses for granting you guaranteed housing AFTER the deadline – you must be proactive and seek a solution in a timely manner. Again, OSA will not accept deposits for future semesters if your current semester account (or any past semester account) is not in good standing and paid in full.
Stage 2 – the application – DEADLINE April 5th
Beginning March 8, 2013 at 9:00AM, you will be able to complete the online housing application. The housing office will periodically send email reminders to students who have submitted a deposit, but not completed the online application.
The online application process will require you to log on to My Housing, a website that will allow you to apply for housing and track your room selection status. Among other things, My Housing will allow you to connect your application with one or more preferred roommates (see the link below to the Critical Details page for more information).
Online room selection appointments cannot be scheduled until all online applications have been submitted after the application deadline. The deadline for completing your online application is April 5.
Remember – housing will not be reserved for you just because you submitted a deposit and completed the online application. You MUST also complete Stage 3 – online room selection.
Stage 3 – online room selection – TAKES PLACE APRIL 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th
Shortly after submitting your online application in Stage 2, you will receive a confirmation email telling you when you can expect to receive your online room selection appointment. If you do not receive this email within a few business days of submitting your online application, please contact the director of housing in the housing office.
Room selection appointments will be sent by email on April 7. Once you receive that appointment, write it down and remember it. That is the earliest that you may log on to My Housing to select your room for the 2012-2013 academic year. If you do not receive this email by April 7th, please contact the director of housing (in the housing office of the campus where you wish to live).
At the time of your appointment, log on to My Housing and choose your room. You will be able to choose from all rooms that are available in the housing inventory (rooms that have not yet been filled by other students). If you are part of a pair or larger group of students trying to room together (a pair or group that has properly connected with one another as roommates through the online application process), only ONE of you will need to log on to the My Housing room selection process.
The room selection process will take place between the hours of 7PM and midnight on Monday April 8th, Tuesday April 9th, Wednesday April 10th and Thursday April 11th. The exact time of your appointment will depend on your room selection number (see the link below to the Critical Details page for more information).
