Room Selection: Theme Floor Information
The following are the theme floor communities available to returning students for the 2013-2014 academic year. Click here to see the Theme Floor section of the housing website, which includes descriptions of these theme floors, as well as the theme floors offered in First Year housing.
- Honors – 180 Broadway
- LEAD (Learn, Engage, Advance, Develop) – 180 Broadway
- The New York City Experience (NYCE) – 180 Broadway
Students living on theme floors must adhere to the basic housing contract, but will also be accountable to the following additional guidelines. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in administrative removal from the floor and relocation to another room assignment as determined by the Director of Housing.
Members of theme floors will participate in the development of a community agreement. This agreement will stipulate the mutual expectations of all floor members, including specific behaviors and participation in specific programs and events that support the theme of the floor (e.g. sustainability themed community may agree that all members will participate in bi-weekly programs and/or take care to use “Earth-friendly” personal hygiene items).
Members of theme floors will participate in regular floor meetings at which the floor’s adherence (and the adherence of individuals) will be discussed in an effort to maintain a commitment to the theme. All members of theme floors must attend at least 7-8 programming events per semester. Failure to attend will result in you being removed from the theme floor community.
Members of theme floors who appropriately and consistently participate in floor events and activities will earn priority room selection in the following academic year. The community agreement (established by the floor during the first weeks of the semester) will stipulate the number of meetings, activities and events a resident must attend in order to earn priority housing selection for the following academic year.
Members of theme floors that center on an academic status (e.g. honors students, students in a particular major) must maintain that status at all times. Loss of this status will result in administrative removal from the floor and relocation to another room assignment as determined by the Director of Housing.
- Members of theme floors will have the opportunity to revisit and redefine their community agreement at the beginning of the Spring semester.
