Blackboard Collaborate Support notification for Mac OS X 10.8.4 users
Important Blackboard Collaborate Notice for Mac users:
Update: Beginning Friday, August 17, Mac OS 10.8.4+ users can download the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher to help alleviate the problems associated with dependencies on system Java and the impact of Java updates. The Launcher includes a known, stable version of Java that is tested and compatible with the Collaborate service. Mac users will no longer need system Java installed or maintained on their computers to use Collaborate web conferencing.
The Launcher is a one-time download that will appear as a prompt to Mac OS 10.8.4+ users when they access a Collaborate session on or after August 17. Once the one-time download is unpacked, a .collab file will be downloaded to their system. Users simply double-click the .collab file to join a Collaborate session. For more information about the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher and how to use it, please reference Blackboard Collaborate’s knowledge base article 3018 .
Recent security changes released by Apple may prevent Web Conferencing customers from launching Blackboard Collaborate sessions and recordings. Customers using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 will be affected. The security changes no longer allow users to auto-launch JNLP files.
The Blackboard Collaborate Support Team has released several work-arounds for these users on the Blackboard Collaborate support site. If you need assistance, please contact Beth Gordon Klingner (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Samantha Egan (email@example.com).
