I haven’t heard about this. Do I have to migrate?
Yes. In our evaluation of the current Google system versus Exchange, the number of benefits to moving out weighed the number of reasons to stay. This decision was also reinforced with our focus group conversations with student groups. The benefits outlined in our emails were as follows:
integration of e-mail, calendar, task lists, and contacts
easier e-mail configuration for mobile devices
better departmental e-mail account integration
ability for calendar sharing between Faculty, Staff, and Students
readily available support from Microsoft
elimination of issues with student mail getting flagged as spam
new MS Lync instant messaging/integration with Outlook Web Access (OWA – http://email.pace.edu )
Notices were sent to all students on 10/2/13. Subsequent reminders were sent to students not yet migrated on 1/27/14 and 3/12/14.
Why is Pace migrating to Microsoft Exchange for student e-mail, calendar, and contacts?
Exchange provides Pace students with the following list of benefits:

readily available support from Microsoft
will eliminate issues related to student mail getting flagged as spam

What does my Exchange account provide?
Students will enjoy integrated features such as e-mail, calendar and Lync instant messaging.
What will happen to my existing e-mails when my account is migrated?
You will not lose any of your existing e-mails. Messages in your Pace e-mail account will simply be transferred to Exchange's e-mail servers and you will be able to access them via email.pace.edu
Will my e-mail account address change?
No, your student e-mail account will remain the same when it’s moved to Exchange.
Can I migrate my email account early?
Yes. If you wish to migrate your Pace email account from Google to Outlook Exchange now, you can use the Early Migration Opt-In Tool
to complete the migration process. Just log in and follow the provided instructions. Once you start the migration, your email account data will be automatically migrated from your Google account to your new Outlook Exchange account. How long the migration takes will depend on how much data you have and the volume of accounts queued for migration, but you can see the completion status by logging back in periodically.
When will all remaining accounts on Google be migrated to Outlook Exchange?
During the January 2014 intersession, ITS will begin migrating all remaining student and alumni accounts from Google to Outlook Exchange. The migration of all accounts will continue throughout the Spring semester until completed. Users will receive one final notice in their Google email account notifying them that their Google account migration to Exchange has been initiated. Please note: It may take anywhere from several hours to a couple of days for the migration to be completed, depending on the size of your account and the volume of accounts queued for migration.
How do I log into my student Exchange Account?
Open your Web browser and go to email.pace.edu
. You will be prompted for your MyPace Portal username and password.
I was already forwarding my Pace e-mails to a personal account. Will my e-mails continue to be forwarded automatically?
No. Any e-mail forwarding cannot be moved over to Exchange. Students will need to reconfigure their e-mail forwarding through the ADAM website (adam.pace.edu
Will my Google calendar be migrated over to Exchange?
All content in your existing Google calendar, except for tasks, will be migrated to your Exchange account. Tasks will need to be re-created on Exchange.
I have multiple calendars on my Google student e-mail account. Will they all be migrated over to Exchange e-mail?
Yes, but the migration tool can only create one combined calendar on Exchange.
Will my Google Drive content (documents, spreadsheets, files, etc.) be migrated?
No. Google Drive content will remain in your Google Drive
account and will be accessible as before.
Will anything else not be migrated?
Existing tasks will not be migrated and must be recreated in Exchange. Also, although contacts will be migrated, any addresses in those contacts will not be migrated.
Will Alumni accounts also be migrated?
Yes. Alumni with active Pace email accounts will eventually have their data migrated to Outlook Exchange and will then need to log in at https://email.pace.edu/
to access their email account. Any alumni who wish to migrate early can use the Early Migration Opt-In Tool
to complete the migration process.
I'm an Alumnus and no longer wish to use my Pace email account. How do I deactivate it?
If you are an alumnus and wish to deactivate (close) your Pace email account, you can place a Help Desk ticket at https://help.pace.edu
and your request will be completed. Please be advised that you are responsible for retrieving any emails or other valuable data from your account that you wish to retain before requesting to deactivate your account.
Can I check my Google email account after migration to confirm all my data was properly migrated?
Yes, after an account is migrated to Microsoft Outlook Exchange, each student will have up to 180 days to check his/her Google email account to verify that all data has been properly migrated. Once the 180-day period is reached, the student’s Google email account will be permanently deleted.
How can I view the remaining e-mail quota for my Exchange e-mail account?
Log in to your Student e-mail account (email.pace.edu
) and, on the left navigation pane, hover your mouse over your name until a pop-up displays with your remaining quota.
I am a student worker/graduate assistant, how do I access a department shared calendar/inbox?
Users must have permissions to open a shared mailbox using Outlook Web Access. You can obtain permissions through your direct report if not already provided. If the required permission has been granted, complete the following steps to open a shared mailbox in OWA:
sign in to Outlook Web Application (email.pace.edu )
select drop-down link displaying your name at the top of right of the window (next to the sign out link)
select Open Other Mailbox from drop-down
type name of the shared mailbox

Will my e-mail be deactivated if I am not registered for classes?
Students who have not taken any classes within the past 9 months are considered inactive. Thus, your Pace E-mail will be deactivated after the 9 months period.
Can I keep my e-mail account after graduation?
Yes. You will be able to continue using your account provided you graduated in good standing with Pace. Please note, if you do not graduate, your Pace E-Mail will be deactivated after 9 months. Students who have not taken any classes within the past 9 months are considered inactive.
Can I search my mailbox?
Yes, you can use the search box at the top of the message pane to search your mailbox.
Can I add a signature to my e-mails?
Yes, you can by clicking on Options and selecting See All Options. On the left navigation pane, click on settings. Within Mail Option, under E-mail Signature, enter in the desired signature text. The created signature can be included on message you send, by checking . Exchange mail does not support rich text formatting or HTML in your signature
Is there a size or type limitation for file attachments in an E-mail?
Yes, to help prevent viruses, Exchange won't accept file attachments that are executable files. There's also a 10 MB size limitation for attachments.
Can I spell-check messages?
You can check your spelling at any time by clicking Check Spelling at the top of the message you're composing. Misspelled words are highlighted in yellow. Click a misspelled word to see suggestions for similar words.
Can I forward all messages in a conversation (message thread) at once?
Yes. Open the conversation, and then click Forward all at the right of the message window.
Can I reply to or forward just a single message in a conversation?
Yes. To reply to or forward a single message in a conversation, open the conversation and select the message to forward. At the bottom of the message card, click Reply or Forward.
I can't always find messages I search for. How does Search work?
To search for messages, type a word that the messages contain. Note, however, that Search matches "whole words" only --- that is, it doesn't recognize partial or similar matches. For example, if you search for benefits, Search won't find benefit or benef. Also, Search doesn't recognize special search characters, such as square brackets, parentheses, currency symbols, the ampersand, the pound sign, and asterisks.
By default, Search doesn't look in your Junk E-mail folder. To search within your Spam, click on the Junk E-mail folder. Within the search box, type the word you are searching for.
What is the "Private computer" checkbox option on the https://email.pace.edu login screen? Should I leave it checked as private computer?
On the newly upgraded Outlook Web App (OWA) login page (https://email.pace.edu
), there is checkbox labeled "Private computer", which is checked by default. This setting affects how long it takes before the computer automatically logs out the user after a period of inactivity. If the checkbox is checked (thus, Private), the computer will log out after 8 hours of inactivity. If the checkbox is not checked (thus, Public), the computer will log out after 15 minutes of inactivity. This default setting is configured by Microsoft and cannot be changed by our IT staff, although users can deselect the checkbox themselves to designate the computer as public.
We strongly recommend
that users logging into their OWA email account from any shared (public) computer always log out of their account when finished. This also applies to any systems.
How do I forward my Pace e-mail?
Go to adam.pace.edu
and, on the right side under Account Management, click on e-mail Forwarding. Log in using your MyPace username and password. Select the "Forward to the following e-mail address" option and enter in your desired e-mail address in the field provided. You may also select the option to leave a copy of forwarded messages on the server, which will keep a copy of the e-mails on the Pace student account. Click the Save Changes button to save your e-mail forwarding settings. Once your changes are saved sucessfully, logout.
I forward my Pace Exchange email to an external account. Will some of my emails still be retained in the Exchange Junk Email folder?
No. If you forward your Exchange email to an external account, all your emails are forwarded by default. Your external email service may or may not filter the emails, so you will need to check that account’s Junk Email folder periodically.
Will the emails in my Junk Email folder be automatically deleted after 15 days, as it was with the EOP Quarantine?
No. Currently, emails will remain in your Junk Email folder until you manually delete them or empty the entire folder by right-clicking either the e-mail message or folder and selecting the desired option from the shortcut menu.
How can I designate valid emails in my Junk Email folder as legitimate so they are not sent to the Junk Email folder anymore?
From your Outlook Client:
click your Junk Email folder to access it
right-click any email message that you want marked as not junk.
select Junk and click Not Junk from shortcut menu
From your Outlook Web App (http://email.pace.edu):
click your Junk E-mail folder to access it
right-click any email message that you want marked as not junk.
select Junk E-mail and click Mark as Not Junk from shortcut menu
Note: With both options above, any messages marked as Not Junk are moved back to your Inbox or to the folder they were previously in, and the email address is added to the Safe Senders list.

Does Exchange Calendar have event reminders?
Yes, by default, Exchange Calendar displays a pop-up reminder 15 minutes before an event. You change the reminder time by editing the settings for your calendar.
Can I set up a recurring meeting?
Yes, Exchange Calendar fully supports recurring meetings. To set one up, in your meeting request, select the Repeat icon from the top. Select the appropriate time and settings. Once you have selected your options, click OK.
How long do past events stay on my Exchange calendar?
Your past events remain on your calendar forever, unless you delete them. If you want to view past events, make sure you wait a few seconds for Exchange Calendar to retrieve them for the date you select.
Can I make a meeting private?
Yes, Exchange Calendar has privacy settings. In the event details, check the box marked as Private so others cannot see the name of the event and its details.
